Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

someone is circulating digilocker.gov.in instead of digitallocker.gov.in as the official digital locker of government of India. The digilocker.gov.in website also has exactly same web interface as digitallocker.gov.in.

I had some ideas to improve the digital locker website. 1. Community certificate 2. Transfer Certificate 3. PRAN CARD (Permanent Retirement Account Number 4. ESIC Card, 5. First Graduate certificate must be updated on "uploading Documents" list of Digital Locker website for attain more specificity of every Indian safety. Also it must be linked by "nominee who is appointed by the user or resident of every Indian if he enable to access the website or after the death of the resident.

Great idea as part of digital india. Appreciate the goverment's initiative. But 10MB will not be sufficient for any user. Because all the academic certificates would be more in size. To store everything an one standpoint we must need atleast 25MB.
1. Technology has been developed to have unique user id with severe authentication. we can have all documents here and for all goverment exams respective company can refer this site whihc will be less work. Paper can be saved.

Very good initiative with the latest technologies like OTP login etc. As this will be an one stop place for all to store their very important documents, maximum care must be taken to protect these data from the attackers who always try to hack the government websites. Encryption, DMZ, DLP,VA scan, digital sign and other technologies can be built around to make this locker a highly secured one. Govt must also ensure that the technology work around this, is outsourced only to Indian IT companies.

I think it is a good initiative but as nothing is perfect, it has also some faults like it gives entry only through aadhar no.
i had not got entry therefore i am unable to say anymore about this locker system. i have a name for it, this can be online document portal/online deed(an official document that gives details of a legal agreement, especially about who owns a building or piece of land) portal

Is gov.in domain safe?
U should shift this locker to gov.nic.in i think

That domian is 24*7 protected.
Anyways if u keep our file keep it encrypted and there keys salted.
