India is among 51 countries to sign the “Rome Declaration” on “Achieving Self-sufficiency in Safe Blood and blood products based voluntary non-remunerated donation”. Blood is an intrinsic requirement for health care and proper functioning of the health system. National AIDS Control Organization under Department of Health and Family Welfare has been primarily responsible for ensuring provision of safe blood for the country since 1992. National Blood Policy 2003 reiterates firmly the government’s commitment to provide safe and adequate quantity of blood, blood components and blood products.

However, in India, a needy patient or his relatives have to run from pillar to post in search of blood and the onus of procurement of blood still lies with the patient and not with the service provider.

Suggestions are invited on how to develop a nationally coordinated and well networked blood transfusion service in the country and reach 100% voluntary blood donation to enable us to meet the global goal of self sufficiency in blood and blood products.

In practical we see we do health insurance and medical claim insurances but we do not utilise and we waste our premium amount and in addition we pay much in our daily or regular minor disease for fever cold cough or other along with the doctors fees.
have we ever though the people who can not afford these insurances and if they get stuck with critical disease they don't have choice except death at extreme situation or some other option which creates social imbalance and harasments.

Sir, Government Owned Corporate Operated Model (GOCO) may work.
1. Govt to give land, building and one time Blood Bank equipment to Corporate Operators.
2. Surplus land of PSUs can be utilized.
3. Audits can be done by board consisting of nominated elite of the town.
4. Star Celebrities can be used as campaigners of blood donation.
5. Colleges are to be considered as prime source of donors.
6. Educating & motivating students is easy. They are large in numbers and also ever changing.

Even in large pvt hospitals in metro cities a kidney patient struggles to get a convenient time slot for Dialysis! Please try to look into their eyes and you will see despair, fear and helplessness.HUGE initiatives are badly needed in this area where our citizens deserve at least minimum infrastructure and at affordable cost. Please meet a few families having Dialysis dependent patients and hear their stories to know the reality.

Please do something good for the poor kidney patient. Every month expense to cure their disease is about 15000-20000. So the poor patients are forced to die due to lack of sufficient money. Please help them out.

Can we do something for our Government hospitals at all levels starting from PHCs...They are the connecting point for access to health services for the masses. Let us see how Singapore General Hospital works. It would put to shame even our reputed private sector hospitals.

Recent Incidence of death of 12 women (as per media report) during sterilization operation in Chattishgarh is example of very unprofessional approach toward the sensitive issue of Family Planning. Undue Administrative Pressures (as ranking of district depends of % of achievement in targeted sterilization operation and District Magistrate Gets higher credential), Not following guidelines as there is no quality control mechanism in place are some issues which lead to such shameful instances......
