Government of India launched the Smart Cities Mission to enable the holistic development of Indian cities. This initiative under the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) aims to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life of people by enabling local development and harnessing technology as a means to create smart outcomes for citizens. According to MoUD, the core elements of a Smart City include: adequate water and electricity supply, suitable sanitation and solid waste management, efficient public transportation, affordable housing, robust IT connectivity and digitalization, e-governance with citizen participation, sustainable environment, and safety and security of citizens with health and education for all. These objectives are proposed to be attained through a judicious mix of retrofitting, redevelopment and Greenfield development.

With the above mentioned objective city of Dehradun has been analyzed in detail to find the issues, strengths and potential of various locations, with respect to Smart city features. Consultations with various departments, para-statal agencies and public have been done to choose the most favorable site. Various proposals of government departments and their schemes have been studied and its integration in terms of development and financial support have also been carried out.

For the proposed ABD, detailed citizen consultation and consent is being carried out. The inputs from citizens will be reflected the vision and overall proposal. The identified ABD site during round 1 is strategically located on fast developing Chakrata Road, Shimla By-pass Road over a land parcel of 350 acres. This site will be transformed into a TOD based development making it hub for Higher and Technical Education, Knowledge Hub, Hospitality Hub, Special Agro Produce Zone, etc. The idea is to de-congest the existing city as well as monetize the potential of strategic land, thus providing socio-economic development with best in class facilities. The proposed project envisages a total investment of over 4000 crores and the tentative benefits generated from the project to the tune of over 1500 crores over a time span of 5-7 years, are planned to be invested in all the identified four zones of the existing city of Dehradun. The identified area happens to water recharge area, so the project proposal essentially includes use of technologies to ensure that water retention in the area is maintained to the current level.

The goals of improving governance and tourism in the city will be met through better information availability, smarter services and one stop shops at the city level. This is currently planned through a mobile platform which is envisioned as a single point of contact for citizens and business. Several services for citizens will be provisioned through mobile, which has high penetration and businesses will find it easy to avail licenses, seek permits and approvals. This city app will also provide platform for local manufacturers of forest products, textiles and food industry to market their products and sell them beyond Dehradun adding to city exports. This mobile application will group all data input from the convergence with existing areas & services of Dehradun, like water supply, power, e-governance, transportation and new level of application is being planned under this initiative.

Kindly, share your views, suggestions or feedback for Smart City Dehradun till 18th March, 2016.

I feel first the basic eminities - Effective Traffic Mgt and parking arrangement, proper waste disposal and drainage system should be made available to the public before embarking on the Smart City Mission. Also green cover should not be lost due to unlimited and unorganised construction going on these days. We are growing city and we can learn a lot from other cities to avoid some of these above mentioned issues before it gets too late. These should be included as part of this project delivery.

The Growing Temperature, Reduced Rains and related climate change are a serious thing to worry about! We should prevent this City from becoming a Hot-Air-Baloon like Noida and NCR. There are several factors that are affecting the climate here - increasing number of vehicles and the traffic snarls (do we need an ODD/EVEN system like Delhi :)), Diesel run autos, Cutting down of green forests, high use of Plastic and growing high rise in the Reality Sector, etc... Lets save our Climate!

There is no idea in spoiling the green cover existing in the form of Tea garden.Already there has been lots of tree felling in developing Dehradun as capital and so called temporary capital.Let all modern facilities be developed in existing Doon by increasing greencover, improving transportation, pedestrian paths free of encroachment, shift main offices like Vidhan Sabha, sachivalaya etc from main city to satelite towns near by let Doon regain its old beauty for which it was known.

Dehradun and its people are already SMART and LOVING, thanks to the social and cultural living style of this beatutiful city. To make this city SMARTER, the Dun Smart City project sounds promising but to make this project a success, we first need to work on the BASICS - Climate Change Control, Pure Drinking Water, Better Road and Transport, Better Job Creation, Crime Control, Better Civic Sense, to name a few... When we have a strong BASE, we can build a SMARTER CITY on top of it :)

I think that before working on smart city project, we should work on how to make people smart. People should have smart and good thinking. If we made the city smart do you think that will be that smart. If you think yes it will but my question is how? Who will take care of it? City is enough smart but we have to think over how to change the mind set of the people. Today well qualified people don't have manner for driving, spitting, talking, calling, living and most important thinking.

We all have seen the result of public interferance in chakrata road widening.Already 4 years have been past but still that road looks like HANGING GARDEN OF BABYLON.So its our duty to support govt. for this project otherwise we all will loose a brilliant opputunity to build our city as a smart city.

i think in shimlabypass it is good to create a new well plan city, with the help of this we can manage the design of city as a smart city should be. we can arrange the city as chandigarh's city plan which is very effective in design and traffic control. the sewers line will be provided in this so that we can control the wastage. industries should be in a particular area so that gov. could arrange the wastage which comes from them and by this we can maintain a city pollution free and green.
