Greater Mumbai, the city of dreams, is also part of the Smart City Challenge, commissioned by the Ministry of Urban Development. The focus on making any city smart is to provide better services more efficiently to its citizens at their doorstep. With this view, the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai believes that ideas for developing Mumbai into a Smart City should come directly from its citizens. This initiative is part of the comprehensive plan for citizen engagement envisioned by the MCGM. We will also be inviting suggestions via social media, at the level of the wards and on a pan city level.

With a population which is diverse and vibrant in so many ways, the potential to develop the city of Mumbai is limitless. As the pioneer of development and business and a melting pot of cultures, Mumbai is a very good representation of the dynamic culture of India. As a representative, Mumbai has the responsibility of becoming a global example of an efficient and citizen friendly city, through technology and service delivery.

To this purpose, we the MCGM, invite citizen of Mumbai to tell us what they believe should be a part of the Plan to develop Greater Mumbai into a city where every citizen enjoys efficient services and overall quality of life is increased and preserved. We are looking for any ideas, innovations and suggestions that will help us put together a good plan for the smart development of Mumbai.

Smart Cities Challenge - MCGM

Please provide your suggestion and feedback latest by 15th October, 2015.

I think to follow basic cleanliness people shud b fined n charged not in cash but in kind. If u spit on the road or litter garbage u shud b ordered to do community service for 1 day. Also good use of policy regulation shud b done by eunuchs. Ppl definitely get afraid of dem so dey shud b given dis task

I love Mumbai. I think before we can implement technological solutions for improvement of the city and its people we must correct what is wrong.
1. Enforce strict cleanliness laws. Strictly collect fines for spitting, littering etc.
2. Encourage dashboard cameras in cars to record anybody breaking the law.
3. Clean the Mithi river. We can still save it. Very soon it will be on a path of no return. Encourage private-public partnership for this project.

1)Signals should be automatic depending upon traffic,if at one side traffic is more it should be allowed to pass for more time, compared to the traffic were it is less.
2)Garbage collection should be GPS oriented.
3)Single smart card for all means of public transportation.
4)Autos,taxis should be maintained by an Govt-app such that refusals for short distances will stop.
5)Swachh volunteers has to be created having powers to fine the people who make the city dirty.
6)Database of all doctors.

I Believe that these changes will bring in Noticeable Change in the city and are easy to implement !

1) Wifi hotspots at road signals !
2)Noise level monitoring devices at signals and hsg societies.
3)A separate building for fruits and vegetable vendors, on rental. No street side selling should be allowed.
4) Perfect levelling of roads during repair work as this is the first impression of the city !
5)A ticketing system like the metros at local train stations to prevent over crowding !

Greater Mumbai needs to be kept clean as there is garabage, portholes etc everywhere. At the same time there are many places to visit like Marine drive, Appolo Bunder, Chowpatty etc. All these tourist attractions must be kept neat and clean.

In order to make this city a smart one one thing on the ground level we will have to implement is anti-spitting law, city's own people has turned the city red(pan masala spits), they should be charged a penalty. Though, there is a law in Mumbai, but the question is, how effective? Can we also take off slums and accommodate this people in proper houses. Smart city doesn't look good with slums. Mumbai also needs a north-south connectivity through metro, this will take off some pressure from locals

THE BOMBAY GREENWAY PROJECT has 4 salient features
1 It directly affects minimum 7.7 million commuters daily!(The Population of Switzerland) – Final population using it will be far more
2 It creates more than 1000 acres of brand new green space with NO reclamation or acquisition accessible everywhere in the city
3 It can save over 4000 people a year!(10-12 people die daily on the railway tracks)
4 It's an alternative mode of transport that's totally green (walk, run, cycle)- 114 kms of it!

THE NEW SHIVAJI PARK PROJECT
The side between Shivaji Park and Dadar beach is lined with multiple civic buildings with compound walls dividing the public spaces. By proposing an underpass on the western edge, the beach becomes the fourth edge of the park. The New Shivaji Park includes the existing park and the long uninterrupted beach stretch, creating a much larger public space and makes the public buildings accessible.

THE BANDRA TALAO PROJECT is a simple, inexpensive, minimum intervention plan, one that requires zero land acquisition or reclamation, yet with the potential for maximum positive impact on the city & its inhabitants. By proposing a 350m underpass for vehicular traffic along the Talao and extending the existing edge of the Talao onto the street, a new urban space of 2 acres can be created alongside 7.5 acres of the lake which is free from vehicles, traffic noise, air pollution and encumbrances.
