NDMC, the heart of Delhi is a unique case of urban mobility. With around 2.5 lakh populations the city witnesses influx of over 20 Lakh people everyday mostly for official and commercial purpose. In addition to the commuters there is sizeable number, which crosses the area adding to the traffic woes. The area is very well connected with public transport. Several lines of Delhi Metro and DTC bus routes connect it with rest of the city. However, the very size of commuters and visitors to the area is far too much and smart parking management is the urgent need to decongest the city.

NDMC has two Multilevel Parking lots having about 2200 car parking space and one underground parking of 975 car parking capacity. Experiences of parking management in NDMC areas have shown people’s bias towards roadside or on street parking over and above multi-level off street parking. One reason may be little difference in pricing. The worldwide norm has been a significant higher price of on street parking to discourage it substantially. We may also think on lines of increasing the price of on street/road side parking in multiples of ten. (if multilevel parking rate is Rs. 10 per hour, the road side may be raised to Rs. 100 or more). In addition to this we may identify some areas, which are most central to business and commercial activities where traffic movement should be, either banned or restricted and on street parking should be banned completely.

NDMC invites citizen’s ideas to make the parking and traffic management smart.

a) What is wrong with our Parking System in NDMC area?
b) What are the issues in last mile connectivity of Delhi metro in NDMC area? What can be done to improve it?
c) Which areas in NDMC should be no vehicle zone or restricted vehicle zone?
d) Why people don’t prefer off road parking?

f) How to price, zone and enforce smart parking?

use the data from the nearby wifi hotspots and the telco to calculate the no. of users in the vicinity and then divide accordingly, google maps data can also be incorporated and satellite LIVE Image as well

d) why ppl dont prefer off road parking... ppl are unaware of the fact that they can if at all park their vehicles off road anywhere nearby on roof tops of any buildings or that on multi level parking is available, to ensure this proper signage to indicate the same with special blinking signal indication on those buildings as to whether at all parking inside those buildings at all are available or not should be seen from far off distance or else the date be made available directly onto the app

c) No vehile zone or restricted vehicle zone areas should be declared those which shows their color in red on google maps live traffic info, and should change the status in real time.

b) Issues in last mile connectivity of metro... no buses. if buses are there, no AC inside. If ac is there not working. If ac working, temperature is not maintained, there should be a display thermometre to tell inside and outside temperature, cameras should be there inside the buses and should STREAM VDO LIVE directly to the MOBILE APP, to ensure its working, also the transaction of the money should be seamless, purely digital, like via mobile, no extra card.

a) Whats wrong with the parking system... The parking system does not have shades to be provided over the area where cars are parked. As a result in less than 10 minutes, the temperature of the cars with windows rolled up raises to 55 degree celcius under optimal sunlight, even if the temperature outside the car is below 20 degree celcius, and temperature does not stops there, it goes even beyond upto 95 degree celcius if car is parked for around 4 hours. Seats gets heated up which AC cant cool

apart from this it should be made mandatory for companies, firms, MNC's to provide bus facility for all its employees. the buses should be of high quality and luxurious so that the employees should not feel the need to go in his own car. this would cure the parking as well as pollution problems.

this checking should be done regularly at all the prime locations like shopping malls, schools, hospitals, major traffic signals, markets, metro stations so that a person is not charged a fine even if he was just going back home dropping some people.

the main problem i feel is the increasing no of people who own a car or a suv just for themselves. Many a times you will see just a single person going to office or anywhere else in his huge fortuner. if he had done a car pool or used public transport the space occupied by 4 such fortuners driven by 4 such people like him would have reduced to just 1. so for that proper monitoring and checking should be done outside the residential buldings that howmany people are sitting in a car.

Parking problems might be solved completely though ppp model. Eg. Like building roads through the parking building. Such parking buld. can be built mainly on junctions, busy city roads etc. ground floor can be kept for cycles and for walking (no vehicles). Road can pass through 1st / 2nd floor depending on area conditions and above that may be atleast 10 floors for paid parking. Pvt. players under ppp model can collect parking charge to recover their cost just like tolls on road... See image
