NDMC, the heart of Delhi is a unique case of urban mobility. With around 2.5 lakh populations the city witnesses influx of over 20 Lakh people everyday mostly for official and commercial purpose. In addition to the commuters there is sizeable number, which crosses the area adding to the traffic woes. The area is very well connected with public transport. Several lines of Delhi Metro and DTC bus routes connect it with rest of the city. However, the very size of commuters and visitors to the area is far too much and smart parking management is the urgent need to decongest the city.

NDMC has two Multilevel Parking lots having about 2200 car parking space and one underground parking of 975 car parking capacity. Experiences of parking management in NDMC areas have shown people’s bias towards roadside or on street parking over and above multi-level off street parking. One reason may be little difference in pricing. The worldwide norm has been a significant higher price of on street parking to discourage it substantially. We may also think on lines of increasing the price of on street/road side parking in multiples of ten. (if multilevel parking rate is Rs. 10 per hour, the road side may be raised to Rs. 100 or more). In addition to this we may identify some areas, which are most central to business and commercial activities where traffic movement should be, either banned or restricted and on street parking should be banned completely.

NDMC invites citizen’s ideas to make the parking and traffic management smart.

a) What is wrong with our Parking System in NDMC area?
b) What are the issues in last mile connectivity of Delhi metro in NDMC area? What can be done to improve it?
c) Which areas in NDMC should be no vehicle zone or restricted vehicle zone?
d) Why people don’t prefer off road parking?
e) Locations for park and ride
f) How to price, zone and enforce smart parking?

it can be useful to make it mandatory to have a phone number written on the car so that in case of emergency, if someone needs to take her/his car out of parking space, the unnecessary time of making announcements and otherwise can be saved.

Also, another very important and urgent thing is to start and finish the proposed multi storey parking facility in the area behind HT building on KG Marg. This has been in the talks from.last 15 years or so, and the plot has been dug up and lying vacant for about a decade now. This is height of inefficiency.Something which was required 20 years ago, talked about 15 yes ago, commissioned 10 yea ago, is still waiting to start and finish. This facility could sort out many congestion and parking issues.

I feel NDMC area is the most beautiful and well maintained area of entire Delhi. I wish rest of the Delhi could be like this. Why can't MCD work on the lines of NDMC?..with respect to traffic issues. I feel that the entire middle and inner circle area of Connaught place be made a vehicle free zone. Only some specially designed and limited number of E-rickshaws should be permitted to ply for those people who have limitations in walking.

F) on road parking zones should be classified as per time. Congested zones should for example be p15 which means parking meter will be billed for every 15 min. P30 every 30 min and so on based on traffic density. Vechicle parked should take parking bill which can be bar coded and scan it again when resuming journey. Fare will be automatically calculated based on time of parking zone #NDMC #MyGov
