India Science (www.indiascience.in) is an Internet-based science Over-The-Top (OTT) TV channel. It is an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt of India ...
Our first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru who popularised the term "scientific temper” in India. He dreamt of a nation with a "scientific temper". By this he meant people who would be able to think independently, understand and practice scientific methods in their daily lives, analyse and take informed and calculated decisions rather than taking statements at their face value and avoid simplistic reasoning.
Development of scientific temper among the people could, in fact, bring into focus the essence of all religions-the universal laws governing the inner world of human beings and, thus, promote communal harmony in a multilingual, muti-religious and multiracial country like India.
It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry and reforms”…
The Fifth Parliament by the 42nd Amendment to the Constitution inserted one article namely Article 51 (A). It says that
“It shall be the duty of every citizen of India to develop the scientific temper, humanism and the spirit of inquiry”.
Thus, a good citizen of India is duty bound to develop a scientific temper.
All investigations begin with a question. As teachers, we should be helping children develop their ability to ask questions. Every question can lead to ideas being challenged and new ones being generated.
Scientists ask questions. As Albert Einstein said: ‘The important thing is to not stop questioning.’
However, we can reach the best possible conclusion based on the most complete and modern evidence available.
Most scientists will concede that, although they seek truth, they don’t know or generate truth. They propose and test theories, knowing that future evidence may cause refinement, revision, or even rejection of today’s theories.
In an ever changing world, it is critical that we teach our children how to develop scientific thinking and reasoning skills.
Science is the Art of Nature. It is the way to develop. It is the process that generates operates and destruct. Our mind and body can be compared with science and scientific. Our thinking should be scientific. Our education must be scientific. We see practical classes in school and colleges had been reduced. It should be increased to fill the scientific temperament in our mind. The combination of science and scientific grow our capabilities disallows illusions and bring prosperity.
Today I invite applications for job and am shocked to see the horribly trained engineers and MBAs. The quality of education badly needs to be improved otherwise we will keep getting sub standard employees which will ultimately effect adversely to our cumulative growth.
