Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation has been selected through a competitive process for SMART City Mission initiative of Government of India. In the next phase, Coimbatore city ...
Continuing with my suggestions in a city where I have chosen to live rest of my life after having spent 34 yrs in IAF.Introduce online procedures & ensure its sucess in CCMC.Reduce density of population.Don’t allow multistoried residential DwellingUnits(DU)Limit multistoried buildings to 4or5 floor only.Limit gated community living to either 500 or 1000DUs proportionate to land area.Eg,not more than500DUs in25 acres. These gated community living should haveits own park & bio-waste disposal system
Firstly revamp CCMC, be prompt improve your online payment portals and most importantly shunt out those asking for bribe. Even to issue a TNPUC for operating STP some key persons want bribe. Write to CVC to monitor employees.
Smart should have a better library facilities there should be library in each ward..And traffic timers should be working in all signals perfectly
More resting places and roadside parks should be built..Spitting in raod and littering should be made offensive more dustbins should be placed and proper disposal should be done everyday...
A smart city is also a city that can reduce, recycle and regenerate. This policy has to be adapted by all households, commercial establishments and industries, thereby reducing dependence on natural resources to a large extent. Importance should be given to recycling of garbage & water, harvesting of rain water and generating power out of waste.
A smart city is a city that can support itself. First we need an effective and efficient administration. A good and well maintained public transport system which reduced dependence on own vehicles, thereby reducing traffic and pollution on the streets. Developing our city's natural resources like the water bodies to bio-diversity hot spots, thereby increasing tourism and hence related revenue.

12. LAST BUT NOT LEAST....
Suggestion / feedback receiving system in City Corporation need to be more effective and should be made easy approachable. Feedback / action taken on the suggestion received has to be intimated to the sender who spends valuable time to give suggestions
Similarly, complaint / grievances registering system to be improved.
The above 2 systems to publicized well for easy access...
Contd...
7. North CBE or Peelamedu Railway station to be developed as 2nd junction to avoid congestion near Raiwlay station
8. Street lights to be made 100% working
9. Traffic signals to be made 100% working with Timers
10. Avinashi Road "Green Corridor" is not effective. To be activated.
11.Auto fares much higher than Taxi fares. Proper tariff system to be implemented on top priority. This tarnishes CBE's image among tourists and people from other states.

4. During widening of roads, most of the Green trees were cut. Coimbatore it loosing its Greenery Image. Planting of more trees should be done. More parks can be developed inside city and should be properly maintained.
5. Bus stops are closer to Traffic junctions at many places. The same need to be shifted to avoid traffic congestion.
6. Peelamedu & SIHS colony railway over bridge to be completed on priority. Similarly more railway over bridges to be built.
Contd....
1. Examples of severely damaged roads : FCI road Ganapathy, Athipalayam Pirivu to Chinnavedampatti raod, Police Colony - Ganapathy, Ganthi Maanagar roads, Fun mall road,Part of VK road in Cheran Maanagar, Part of Trichy Road, Masakkali palayam road.
2. Most of road accidents are due to Rash / Over speed driving. Police should be strict on them to avoid Accidents.
3. During rains, most of the roads are flooded with rain/drainage water leading to diseases. Needs good drainage system
Vision of the Coimbatore:
Green Environment, Traffic Discipline, Smooth accident free Roads, Good Water & Power management, Best Drainage system
Strengths, areas of improvement & solutions across the following sectors
The following areas need major improvement to be a "Smart City":
1. Now a days most of the city roads are in badly damaged condition and this is added by recent incomplete UGD works. Those Contractors to be penalised for delay. Needs smoother /accident free roads.
