Madurai is the living 2000 years old heritage symbol of Sangam civilization. It's ancient heritage structures are yet to be notified for proper preservation. The tourist potential needs to be explored for the economic sustenance of the city.

Vaigai river and the scores of irrigation tanks, temple tanks and channels - all ingeniously built during the ancient Pandya era but stand encroached / vandalized - in the city need preservation/ revamp for water security / beauty of the city.

The city of Madurai requires to ensure basic infrastructure services to enable a decent quality of life in urban pockets and a clean and sustainable environment and adoption of smart solutions and providing more public spaces to poor. It may be implemented through areas based approach consisting of retrofitting, re-development, pan city initiatives. There is also need of hours to develop and adopt a model code for development of new cities Pan India for continuous pace of Smart Development.
