The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP. For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

Respected Prime Minister,
First and foremost ,need to identify the existing skill set of existing work force by certification. This will encourage and provide respect and recognition for the mining labourers.
Secondly joint ventures with foreign companies is a must to bring in technology.
Thirdly, though we do have mining engineering, perhaps sadly the engineers are absorbed into other streams such as IT. Mining must be made more lucrative to pool talent.
Forth, Mining R&D

I am an entrepreneur designing scientific instruments for education of physics and chemistry at college , university and research level. I support Made In India concept but at the same time Central and state governments should align to support such industry. In Goa the people only think of tourism and hospitality. The state government seems least concerned of industries just creeping over stopped mining. And RBI is not brining schemes that will help funding to manufacturing industries .
