Farmers in Jhunjhunu learn about crop rotation, new technologies

The district administration of Jhunjhunu organized Kisan Melas in Buhana and Nawalgarh blocks to apprise farmers about crop rotation, technologies for round-the-year green fodder availability under scare water conditions; and about Azolla farming. The events provided a vital platform for farmers to discuss their challenges and for agricultural experts to disseminate information about improved practices and technologies.

In an attempt to promote value of water in general and for supporting country-wide efforts on water conservation and sustainable development of water resources, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti launched a contest named “Water Heroes : Share Your Stories” from 1st September 2019 running till 30th June, 2020. For the first month of the Contest, entries were invited from 1st September to 30th September 2019, on MyGov platform.

From 16th -31st July, 2019, a team of central government officers visited the most water stressed villages of Khammam district in Telangana, namely Gurralapadu, Arempula, and Kondapuram (Khammam Rural Mandal), Mallemadugu village (Khammam Urban) and Pindiprolu (Tirumalayapalem) to assess their water conservation measures. The team comprised Central Nodal Officer (CNO) – Sri Rajiv Ranjan Misra, DG NMCG; Sri Vijaya Prakash (BNO), Sri Ravinath Singh (TO), as a part of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA).

Dhanbad makes 2.5 lakh Seed Balls

The district administration of Dhanbad in Jharkhand has taken up various novel initiatives to plant saplings and conserve water. One of them is the preparation and distribution of a whopping 2.5 lakh seed balls through members of Self Help Groups (SHGs). The seed balls are scattered in colliery areas with open-cast coal mines to take root, increase green cover and reduce air pollution.

As many as 1393 soak pits were constructed and handed over to individuals and the community in Thirumalaypalam Block of Khammam district in Telangana since the start of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) on 1st July, 2019. As a result, groundwater levels in dug wells and bore wells have shown a remarkable increase.

The ancient town of Chidambaram in Cuddalore district of Tamil Nadu is blessed with a large number of lakes and ponds. In total, there are 15 lakes, including 3 temple tanks and the combined surface areas of these lakes is around 100 acres with a rough storage capacity of 50 crore litres. The names of the tanks are: Vannan Kulam, Easwaran Kulam, Aanai Mettu Kulam, Nagachery Tank, Periya Anna Kulam, Gnanaprakasam, Ayikulam, Kumarankullam, Palamankulam, Thatchana Kulam, Ommakulam, Thillai Amman Koil Kulam, Elamai Akkinar Kulam, Kariaperumal Kulam, and Chinna Anna Kulam.
