Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government of India is considering to launch a mission for urban housing to provide “Housing for All by 2022” under the name of Sardar Patel National Mission for Urban Housing.
The housing mission would consist of components of slum redevelopment, housing for urban poor through interest subvention, rental housing for migrants and homeless and improvement of infrastructure in unauthorised colonies or slums. The Mission would cover the entire urban area of the country consisting 4041 statutory towns and facilitate housing to slum dwellers, urban poor at affordable cost. Mission also aims at providing adequate rental houses to the migrants (single or family) who came to city in search of employment or as unskilled workers. Mission will also address the adequate housing needs of the destitute and homeless. Proposed Mission will work with the State Governments, Urban local bodies, Private Sector, Financial Institutions and other stakeholders in a team.
