I have tried to develop some common solutions across the cities in India, hope they get deployed in the cities sometime.
Q.1] (18.a) Integrated Public transport system
European transport system should be model Not the American system. Metro train, Bus, Suburban train, long distance train, autos, trams, airport train, boats and cycle stands all will be integrated and there should be seamless connectivity between them.
(18.b)Switching between multiple types of transports should be seamless
(18.c)Faster public transport with dedicated lanes and maglev metro.
Smart Parking: Although mobility needs vary for different cities, parking issues are common in almost all areas. Having a solution of it can reduce the fuel demand and make cities greener and cleaner
e) Cost of projects undertaken versus expenditure – Most of the municipalities don’t see the output of grants given by the state or central government. So an yearly report to showcase amount given to the municipalities against money used for a purpose can help increase transparency.
The ‘Smart Idea’ that I would like to see replicated in my city is the idea of Transit oriented development. This form of development is walkable, has mixed-use and is typically concentrated within 400-500m radius of a transit station, to make transit convenient for people and encourage rider ships. It utilises existing infrastructure, optimizes use of the transit network & enhances mobility in the city. Curitiba (Brazil), Fruitvale (US), Hong Kong, Toronto (Canada)are eg of TOD.
c) Service guarantee awareness - A definite timeframe in which a particular service that will be provided to citizens.
d) Seamless communication medium between Citizen and Authorities – If a road is dig by certain authority, public has no way to tell the government know about the inconvenience. Similarly the authorities can pass such information in advance to the locality.
4. Following 5 essential facts about local municipal corporation that should be available to all citizens:
a) Civic/Municipal Department role, functions, and contact number with escalation matrix – A centralised repository of these details which is understandable by common people is very much required.
b) Awareness of Local laws – Every citizen must be aware of local laws to avoid unnecessary penalties being imposed on them.
Skill Development Centres- Almost all cities have emerged as the hub of talent and huge population, majority of the population is youth. Equipping them with skills can create an asset base for the nation
