While each smart city will have distinctive features specific to its location, demography, culture and other such factors, there maybe smart solutions to problems which are common to all cities. This contest seeks to identify such smart and innovative solutions to common problems.
All questions in this category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
Questions
1. Out of the following 21 smart solutions, select 3 solutions that should be applied to all Indian cities and provide a brief write-up (max. 50 words) to explain why.
2. Describe a ‘smart’ idea that you have seen in some other city(anywhere in the world) that you would like to see replicated in your own city. ‘Smart idea’ means doing more with less.
3. Describe 3 ways that Indian cities can reduce the gap between rich and poor.
4. List out 5 essential facts about your local municipal corporation that should be available to all citizens.
Entry Deadline
• Entries may be submitted online on the mygov.in portal latest by 23.59 hours (11.59 pm) on Saturday, 20th June 2015.
Evaluation
The submissions will be evaluated on the following criteria:
• Do-ability (50%)
• Innovation (50%)
Award
Two winners in each category will be awarded a citation from the Prime Minister at the Smart City Mission Launch on June 25th, 2015 at VigyanBhavan, New Delhi, along witha cash prize of the following amounts:
Rs. 40,000 - First Prize
Rs. 25,000 - Second Prize

The winning ideas would be shared with the 100 SmartCities as potentiallyimplementablesolutions and will be considered for pilot

• All questions in a particular category must be answered to be considered as a complete submission and to be eligible for short-listing.
• The participants(s) entries will be judged for each category independently and on merit. In case of short listing in more than one category, a participant will receive prize money for one category only.
• The length of each answer is limited to 250 words or less.

c) Mix of malls and flee market (sub urban sellers) – General perception about cities is that it will have skyscrapers only however in order to give a perfect balance to our nation, there is a need to provide adequate place to small vendors which will help in strengthening local economy.

1.List 3 municipal services that can be improved with the use of a mobile phone.
-Roads - App for alerting roads needing repair including open manholes, potholes etc.
-App/ 24x7 emergency helpline regarding any Municipal problems – like water/electricity/garbage disposal.

2. Describe 3 aspects of your daily life that have improved with the use of the mobile phone.
-Use of Apps have helped streamline getting help regarding various problems
-Access to internet via phone helps gather data

b) Skill development for under privileged students who are ready to work for nation and self. An entrance exam based selection process can be conducted for skill development exercise. Based on the skills kids can be given government support in sports like gymnastics etc

2.CLEANLINESS IN SINGAPORE.
4.EASY ACCESS TO CHANGE OF ADDRESS IN VOTER'S ID,RATION CARD,ETC,REGULAR ROAD CLEANING,REGULAR WATER SUPPLY,ISSUE OF BIRTH/DEATH CERTIFICATE,PROCEDURE OR GUIDANCE FOR APPLYING AADHAR CARD,VOTER'S ID,ETC.

3. There are three ways are in which rich-poor divide can be bridged:

a) Affordable Education for every section of the society mixed with social awareness. This can be done by improving our municipal and government schools operating in cities. Private schools are conducting a lot of different kind of exercises apart from normal studies. Same can be replicated in government school to keep kids of these schools on par with private schools.

Now an IT system which captures this information for the call centre representative should also have a followup mechanism to check whether the problem was addressed by the required folks or not.
This will not save governments money in rectifying a problem with better productivity. Automated report will be available to government which will show area wise complaints and proactive measures can be taken accordingly. This will also reduce the amount spent on government surveys and no (Contd)

Continued 2. So a US like 911 services which can be utilised to resolve most of the civic/ law and order problems. An intelligent call centre properly routed to the correct representative where complaints can be captured in the system and the complaint can be immediately directed to the respective department which needs to solve the problem.

Answer 1: a. Public Information/ Grievance Redressal- This is the fundamental pillar of democracy. The strength of the governance system is gauged by how effective is the grievance redressal system. It reduces the rich poor gap and also increases the trust of the population on governance
