There is a need to take a scientific look at the fate flowers & leaves (as a part of puja) when disposed off in water. Do they really impart COD/BOD or change pH or they purify the river water given the bactericidal or fungicidal properties of these materials. Let all the reputed CSIR institutes / CPCB & SPCBs to work "pollution potential of flowers & leaves in river water" to clarify doubts of all the devotees, anti-superstition groups, members of NGOs & GOs.

WATCH YOUR STEPS ON GANGA GHATS IN THE MORNING..

I wanted to perform religious rituals at the bank of Ganga in Varanasi. I went at 4 AM to the ghats ( Nov 2012) . I was angry to find fresh human waste deposited on the steps of the ghat. It was systamatically done by a set of human beings. I realised that it was a delibrate plan by a section of society.

Action: Please post night gaurds at all Varanasi ghants to ensure that no one delibrately causes filth at tha ghats.
