India has the world’s highest tuberculosis (TB) burden, with an estimated 28 lakh people contracting the disease every year. TB usually affects the most economically productive age group of society. The stigma attached to TB also acts as a hindrance in seeking care.

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is implementing an ambitious National Strategic Plan to End the TB Epidemic in India. While considerable progress has been made in this direction, there are significant challenges that require community participation to address the problem statement that once addressed will expedite India’s achievement of SDG TB targets on TB.
