Millions of children in India are at risk of worm infestation. Worm infestation impairs physical growth, mental/cognitive development, causes anaemia, leads to poor school attendance and performance. Alongwith with deworming through Albendazole tablets, improvement of water and sanitation and health education can reduce the transmission of worm infestation.

National Deworming Day

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) is proposing to launch National Deworming Day.

Objective of National Deworming Program is to deworm all pre-school and school-age children (both enrolled and non-enrolled) between the ages of 1-19 years on a single identified day (twice a year) through the platform of Government, Government aided schools and anganwadi centers in order to improve their overall health, nutritional status, access to education and quality of life.

Target: All children and adolescents in the age group of 1-19 years
When: 10th February, 2015 (Tentative date)
Where: All Government, Government Aided schools and Anganwadi centers

Activities on National Deworming Day

• In Schools: School teachers would provide 1 Albendazole tablet to all school enrolled children.
• In Anganwadi centers: Anganwadi workers would provide Albendazole dose to all children of 1 – 5 years and out-of-school children/adolescents.

This task seeks inputs to suggest a Name for the National Deworming Program.

The last date of submission is 19th January, 2015.

The top three winning entries will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- each and top selected entry would receive an additional cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-.
