Digital Locker is one of the key initiatives under the Digital India Programme. A beta version (http://digitallocker.gov.in) of the same has been released on 10th Feb. 2015, by Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), Govt. of India.

Digital Locker is aimed at minimizing the usage of physical documents and enable sharing of e-documents across agencies. The sharing of the e-documents will be done through registered repositories thereby ensuring the authenticity of the documents online. Residents can also upload their own electronic documents and digitally sign them using the e-sign facility. These digitally signed documents can be shared with Government organizations or other entities.

Key features of the Digital Locker System are:

• 10 MB of free space in digital locker to residents to access their documents through Uniform Resource Identifier (URI) and also securely store e-documents.
• e-sign online service to digitally sign documents

Residents are invited to use the Beta version of the Digital Locker System and provide suggestions and feedback on the same. Suggestions are also invited on the use cases for services which can be additionally provided by the Digital Locker System.

1. First of all the 10 MB free space is very limited. Therefore i think minimum 1 GB is good enough. 2. Please make sure that the site has at-least of 128 bit encryption since the documents are the valuable once. 3. Also please ensure that the login is a two way authentication process to make sure that the right person has been login the account, for safety reason. For this one time password (OTP) system is better. 4. Include public feedback & suggestion services in regular basis.

There should be provision to change Email Address and Phone No. in the profile.(For Example:As per Aadhaar my Email Address was in.com and now in.com has stopped its mail services.) So new profile according to Aadhaar and current email/phone no. may be incorporated for DigiLocker and Aadhaar No. may be used as verification only.-Jai Hind
