Corporation of Chennai is preparing a proposal towards Smart City Challenge which would include city wide smart urban solutions as well as identification of areas within the city for its implementation.

The proposal would be defined primarily based on voice of Chennai residents. An extensive citizen engagement programme is established by Corporation of Chennai to document the views and concernsfor the same.

Residents may post their opinion and ideas on civic services such as transport, parking, water supply, sanitation, energy, housing, IT solutions, health, education, safety and security. Your views, opinion and solutions on urban issues faced by Chennai would not only support a better tomorrow for Chennaites, it will also make Chennai a strong contender for getting shortlisted as one of the first 20 cities in India to implement Smart City Solutions in Phase 1.

Chennai citizen and community is its biggest strength. Let’s participate to make this proposal inclusive and meaningful for every common man, every citizen.

The last date to submit your comments is 15th November, 2015.

Debris may be collected in UV treated Jumbo-zip-lock bags from the houses (bio-gradable and non-bio-gradable separately) by the agency (private or public) and transported to the re-cycling area on the same day. When the public are not ready to this system, a sum may be collected from such houses to use the common-bin provided by the Corporation. Ward-Volunteers can be paid from the sum so collected to encourage civic-responsibility

A survey of the existing drainage system may be made through an experienced agency, replace the pipes in a modern-way as in developed countries without allowing to dig the road everytime, in consultation with TNEB,Water-supply and Telephone departments who take their major role to develop pits on the fully laid roads for want of necessary-space. Any repairs etc., are to be carried-out under the supervision of the ward-public(may be an educated & experienced volunteer of that ward in rotation).

Bringing water, transporting and supplying to public involves a lot of expenditure for vehicle, fuel, salary, mass-water-purification system, depreciation etc.,We may think of establishing slowly RO system in each ward prioritizing on the necessity and public-economic status, place the public of that ward fully responsible to supervise the system and support them to make it fully functional.

My strong submission is towards Sholinganallur, Chennai. Obviouslay it is the heart of all IT professionals and fast mushrooming of all types of businesses and allied businesses.

Koyambedu, Central and T. Nagar are the areas I'd focus on primarily. Immigrants visit these places often and they dislike the present scenario and maintenance.
1. Proper punctual schedule for buses, neat waiting lounge, bus bays and cleaner restrooms could solve considerable amount of problems at Koyambedu.
2. Smart card facility to be brought for transportation and shopping by discouraging the use of cash.
3. Replace old buses with new ones. Train drivers properly to the new tech buses.

1. Cleanliness is of the main concern now.
2. Advanced plastic roads which can withstand wear and high temperatures can be implemented and tested in a few areas. Layers should not be mounted, but scrapped off and laid again, flat and uniform.
3. Proper drainage system must be constructed to regulate excessive water from roads to rivers or any other harvesting plant.
4. Waste materials must be recycled and used efficiently.
5. Alleviation of slums, by providing better infrastructure.

I prefer Pallikaranai, Perungudi, Shollinganallur to be made as Smart City. Already a good private investments are there in this area.

Chennai lags in solid waste management and sewage system.

Solid waste management.

Perungudi and Kodungaiyur are two major landfills for Chennai, dumping is there since 1990. Huge voulme of waste is accumulated here. Very closer schools less than 500m, hospitals, residential buildings are there. It causes serious health issues to Chennai citizens.

Sewage and storm water System.

Many areas in Chennai doesn't have sewage line connection and storm water drains.
