MyGov Talk with Mr. Bibek Debroy: Enabling Participation in New Economy

India is transforming at a rapid pace and India's demographic dividend is expected to play a significant role in enhancing this pace of development. New technologies and increasing participation of women in the various sectors of economy are contributing in a significant way to India's development.

NITI Aayog along with UN in India and MyGov are celebrating this socio-economic transformation across the country. As part of this ongoing effort, we are pleased to announce a live interaction with NITI Aayog Member, noted economist and author, Mr.Bibek Debroy. Scheduled on Monday, April 4th, 2016 at 2 pm, Mr.Debroy’s interaction will address a wide range of issues including difference between old and new economies and how new (internet & Mobile) technologies are lowering barriers and enabling wider participation, the correlation between investment in women and child development and India’s growth, role of new technologies in enabling cross sector participation by women and other under-represented sections of society. Hi Sir. I read that NITI foresees that agri growth this year could be as high as 6% providing the monsoon is as expected. Can you explain how as for many years now net growth has not been higher than 2%

Goverment ask only ideas for development from citizen for make in India. India is country of unemployed youth. Is it possible to engage maximum educated and skilled candidate in every project of Goverment and pay them on basis of their performance hourly basis, in spite of asking their ideas only?

What are the benefits or drawbacks on economy by caste based reservation system of India. Goverment providing fund to SC/SC for entrepreneurship but most of middle class general category also struggle for fund.

Last year, Supreme Court put the onus of expediting the Uniform Civil Code, enshrined in Article 44 of the Directive Principles fully on the lawmakers. It mainly deals with marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption etc., where rights of women are violated. Is the government trying to build a consensus around the issue?

Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Yojana- is a government of India scheme to reverse the trend of decline in the Child Sex Ratio (CSR). Many questions this approach that a lot of emphasis is symbolic (#selfiewithdaughter) and not enough reforms is taking place. Budget cuts last year and again no increased allocation of funds to the ministry of women and child development have also failed to placate the opposition and women’s rights activist so far. How do you respond to this criticism of the government?

We have seen a decline in child sex ratio (0-6 years) from 927 females per thousand males in 2001 to 919 females per thousand males in 2011. We are better educated, more aware, and economically well off than in the past. How do we reconcile these numbers with our increasing prosperity and desire to become a super power?
