Varanasi has often been termed as the cradle of India’s culture. It is a city of scholars, writers, poets and thinkers. The Ganga flows through Varanasi but sadly even here the Ganga’s condition has become pitiable. This task seeks your ideas on a comprehensive plan to clean the Ganga in Varanasi and at the same time a re-development plan for the Ghats of the city.
Step 1.I had been to Varanasi once.Let’s involve each and every one.Let there be a sense of Give and take.Ghats need re-engineering.We want to hand over the Varanasi to our future Generations.Strict action is required,Chalta Hey !Needs to be put to Rest.Preserve all heritage sites.Bring Municipal Commissioner with a vision of SR Rao IAS who cleaned Surat during Plague hit.If Surat can change why not Varanasi.Make Citizens aware of Civic sense give them time to learn Civic Cleanliness.Next fine
Clean the street , use lights, construct the ghats in old looks, boats in one color to give a new look to boat n boat man, give the some money to have nice boat, fix the rate, use nice riksha, keep dustbin , fine people if they through anythn on street , sever punishment and local policing needed, put NGO for particular task, aware people , slowly people make it their habit..
first keep the old structure, buildings and forts as it is , only restoration is needed, dnt build too many malls around, keep the spirit of varanasi intact, like the area of Ghat and around is the real varanasi, so keep it like that, only, make good street, clean and wide , street light, all the road side stalls in a managed way, construct buildings or hotels using patthar kind of material to give a feeling of old forts, or color it in red n white , dnt use too much mall kind of constructi
There are as many 100 ghats in the city of Varanasi. Pollution due to city muncipal waste and untreated human sewage is the major hurdle before ghats development.
1. Development of Roads
2. Construction of Toilets
3. Proper treatment and disposal of Muncipal Waste
4. Exploring Inland water ways
5. Educating people on the importance of "Clean Ganga"
Varsnshi ghat development is require a lot of renovations. The road towards such ghats are mainly conjusted it may be considered. The refloaring of ghats with a pavement for walking is required. During raining season these ghats are getting flooded, so there should be a buffer system where the access water may be diverted. The cremation ghats is to modernised and electric in generation may be promoted. There should be small port type facilities for ships. The shops near that is to be systematic
Prefabricated Check dams are to be put into the nalas. Sufficient time for the sedimentation is to be able the same. Clean water is overflow and again checked by another .Settled mud will be removed by falls bottom of the Check dam.
As per my ist post the post lost the pictures and few words intermingle hence I am submitting the full screen shot .
As per me Ganga ghats and Ganga 's pollution can be checked if we take care of few points as described .... I am ready for discussion to explain if needed.
Education of people on the causes of pollution and benefits of cleaning the river.
Installation of floating Spittoons tied to a pole on the river bank near bathing places for spitting. Bathing ghats should be isolated from the river.
Installation of Garbage bins in all locations where people assemble along the river for throwing waste.
We need to start two efforts simultaneously. (Second effort)
2. Diverting/closing all sewage water and dirty water drainage/inlets away from Ganga. If it is not possible then at-least remove all solid waste by putting large screen and pre- treat sewage water and dirty water before putting this water into Ganga. Pre-treated water can be used for irrigation or as non-potable water in cities.
We need to start two efforts simultaneously.
1 Dredging of Ganga from Haridwar to Ganga sagar.
It seems dredging was neglected for last 100’s of years and Ganga need it badly. Dreading will increase water capacity of Ganga,
it will clean Ganga especially in big cities,
fish population will increase,
possibility of flood will decrease,
and 1000’s of non-skill worker can be employed for this project,
which will also bring economic prosperity to 1000s’
